GJY Mavericks

GJY Swimming has a long history of successful swimming and has grown to be one of the most competitive YMCA swim teams in Western Pennsylvania. We are committed to helping each swimmer meet his or her competitive potential. We emphasize enjoying swimming and doing one’s best. We emphasize the character traits of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and the YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Want to join the swim team?
Must be 5 to 18 years of age and a member of the Johnstown YMCA.  Swim team fees are due in full or with a monthly bank draft on file.

GJY Swimming competes in the Western PA YMCA Swim League.

Team Uniform GJY swimsuit/cap and t-shirt is an additional fee.

GJY/USA Swimming GJY Swimmers may join the GJY/USA Team for an additional fee and must meet all GJY Membership requirements.

Parent’s Club:
Parents are expected to organize and help at swim meets and participate in fundraisers.

Try It Option – a 2 week trial period is available for those not sure if they are ready for competitive swimming.  This fee will be deducted from the season’s total fee if joining the team.

Schedule:

Mondays and Wednesdays:

8 and under from 5pm – 6pm

9-12 year olds (Denny’s kids) 5pm – 6:30pm

13 and over (Glenn’s kids) 6:30 – 8:30pm

Tuesdays:

8 and under from 5pm-6pm

9 and above (Denny’s & Glenn’s kids) from 5pm – 7pm

Thursday:

No 8 and under practice

9-12 (Denny’s kids) from 5pm-7pm

13 and over (Glenn’s kids) from 5pm – 7pm

Friday:

8 and under from 5pm – 5:45pm

9-12 (Denny’s kids) from 5pm – 6:30pm

13 and over (Glenn’s kids) from 5:45pm – 7:50pm

Saturday:

No 8 and under practice

9am – 11am – Any Junior age group or above – 6th day of practice

Ages 9-12 – can only attend as a “make up” practice for missing Monday – Friday for an activity causing them to miss practice during the week
