- What do I need to do to volunteer?
- Application – Each volunteer must complete and sign a volunteer application which
minimally includes name, address, phone, and 2 verifiable references. Applications are available at the Welcome Desk. - Job Description – A brief description of all volunteer positions will be attached to the application allowing potential volunteers to choose one or more areas of interest.
- Read the Volunteer Handbook Agreement and sign the last page to turn into your supervisor.
- Read & Sign our Volunteer Waiver Agreement (attached to volunteer application and Photo Release Agreement
- Complete required clearances.
- Code of Conduct – Each STUDENT volunteer must complete, sign, and abide by the YMCA Code of Conduct
- Praesidium Training – Our Child Abuse Prevention training program is mandatory for all staff and volunteers to complete. Once you have submitted copies of your clearances, a link will be sent to you via email from the YMCA’s Praesidium Account. This training must be completed before beginning your volunteer work at the Y.

- What clearances do I need?
Child Abuse History Clearance – Each volunteer must complete an application for the Child Abuse History Clearance, or supply a current clearance that was conducted on the volunteer less than 1 year prior to the volunteer’s beginning of work at the YMCA.
Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance: Free and available online at https://www.compass.state.pa.us/CWISCriminal Record Check – Each volunteer must complete an application to conduct a Criminal Record Check
Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check: Free and available online at https://epatch.state.pa.usFBI Clearance – May be required if you’ve lived outside of Pennsylvania in the last 10 years
- Do I have to pay for my clearances?
- No, clearances are free for volunteers.
- How often do I have to volunteer?
- We have various opportunities that give flexibility with how much or how little time you have to give back. Any amount of time makes a BIG impact.
- How quickly should I hear back?
- Please give us a week to process your application. Our team will get back to you as quickly as possible.
